It was the first visit to California’s Monterey Car Week for ex-Formula One driver Mark Webber but it sounds like he’ll be coming back. “I’ve been amazed by the variety of motoring activity,” he said. “We’ve seen unbelievable cars from all around the world and it’s been staggering to see the passion, the patience and the painstaking love that the owners put into getting these cars to this extraordinary level.”

Presented by Rolex, the four-day motoring festival featured vintage and modern cars from the likes of Bentley, McLaren, Bugatti, Mercedes-Benz and Maserati. Rolex handed its Best of Show prize to a 1931 Stutz DV 32 Convertible Victoria, while the winner at the Pebble Beach Concours D’Elegance went to a 1931 Bentley 8 litre Gurney Nutting Sports Tourer.

Elsewhere, visitors were given a glimpse of the future as Mini, Bentley and W Motors introduced upcoming vehicles. Mini celebrated its 60th birthday with a prototype of the new Mini John Cooper Works GP. The most powerful series vehicle ever produced by Mini, it has a four-cylinder 300hp engine that’s backed up by an aerodynamically optimised body.

Bentley unveiled its EXP 100 GT concept car that meshes technology with luxury craftsmanship. The car’s battery supplies four motors with enough power to record a 0-100kmh time of less than 2.5 seconds and a top speed of 300kmh. Middle East manufacturers W Motors, meanwhile, presented its second hypercar in Monterey. The Fenyr SuperSport will have a production run of only 110 cars including 10 Fenyr SuperSport Launch Editions. It follows W Motors' debut car, the Lykan HyperSport, which took a leading role in the movie Furious 7.
