The British model is flying high with Aspinal’s new men’s bag collection
David Gandy has collaborated with Aspinal of London to create the Aerodrome range of luggage, wallets and sunglasses that he says represents, “my own personal style blended with luxury heritage English design.” As an internationally-renowned model, Gandy is used to schlepping from airports to hotels around the world on glamorous assignments and knows that reliable luggage is essential. And if that luggage happens to look as handsome as him, well, that's a bonus.
The latch on one of the collection’s standout pieces, the Aerodrome briefcase, is inspired by the machine gun firing button found on the joystick of the iconic Spitfire fighter plane from World War II. Surrounding the clasp are the words ‘safe’ in green and ‘fire’ in red, plus ‘K5054’, which was the serial number given to the Supermarine Spitfire prototype aircraft.
The stitching on the beautiful caramel-hued backpack, meanwhile, mimics the Spitfire’s seat cushion while its latches and buckles are inspired by metal components found on the plane. Gandy greatly admires the Spitfire, calling it, “arguably one of the greatest pieces of British design and engineering of all time.”
Available now in Aspinal of London’s new Dubai Mall store, the Aerodrome range is made from supple Italian calf leather. Gandy describes it as, “masculine, yet functional and stylish.” Chocs away!
