Design for life

Dubai Design Week 2021 is just around the corner. The open event in Dubai Design District takes place between November 8 to 13 and is better than ever and has a number of must-see activities and events for those that pass through. Here's a look at some of the things you can't miss at the show.

Downtown Design

Downtown Design, the Middle East’s leading design fair, returns to a full, live and in-person showcase of 130+ leading international and regional exhibiting brands and designers. There's a strong trade programme that will provide a platform for the region’s design professionals and enthusiasts to discover, source, commission and purchase the latest in contemporary design from around the world. This year, the fair will host brands from over 20 countries as well as major national representations from European countries including Italy, France and Spain, and Downtown Editions. The fair’s boutique section - dedicated to limited-edition and bespoke pieces from designers and brands - will once again showcase the latest in design by individual designers, studios and creative collaborations, with a spotlight on the region.

MENA Grad Show

The physical exhibition MENA Grad Show, an initiative led by Global Grad Show, will showcase 50+ of the region’s most innovative ideas and solutions to make the world a better place in the fields of technology, science and design. It will feature the work of bright young minds coming out of the region’s leading universities, addressing issues ranging from desertification and accessibility through to child nutrition and waste management.

2040:d3 Architecture Exhibition

Co-curated by Dubai Design District and Dubai-based practices, Dubai Design Week will present the 2040: d3 Architecture Exhibition, a multi-media showcase dedicated to architecture that will teleport visitors to the next 20 years of Dubai. It will contain visionary presentations and projects inspired by their direct environments, cultural contexts and accumulated experience of working in the region.

UAE Designer Exhibition

Hosted by Downtown Design and curated by Ghassan Salameh, the UAE Designer Exhibition is set to unveil works by 25 emerging and undiscovered creative talents based and produced locally. The promising ideas of the aspiring generation of talents will be showcased at this year’s edition of Dubai Design Week, offering designers a platform to enhance and help kickstart their projects whilst expanding and strengthening their audience base and professional network.

Beirut Concept Store

Located within Downtown Design, The Beirut Concept Store will present 50 established designers and emerging creative talent from Lebanon. The showcase aims to offer an experiential journey into the heart of the Lebanese design scene, presenting the diversity of the city and its talent in its simplest form. Beirut-based designers, architects and master ceramists will present a range of specially produced objects, from tableware and stationery to books and small gift items, to be made available to industry as well as public visitors.

Weekend activities and music sessions

A new, daily remodeled programme of gatherings, curated by Fatma Al Mahmoud, Meet the UAE Creatives' will bring the local creative community and its stakeholders together. Through a series of engaging dialogues in a casual format at one of d3’s many bespoke eateries, visitors can meet the region’s artisans, creatives and small businesses. These will offer a curated selection of high quality, handcrafted, unique goods as well as sustainable and responsibly sourced products. There will also be a selection of delicious food offerings too. Throughout the week in d3, a series of multi-disciplinary activations, events and engaging activities will offer creative experiences to visitors of all ages, including delicious food offerings and a host of children’s activities, from pottery to tree planting, alongside a programme of live music sessions and entertainment on the weekend.
