Review: These Sennheiser earbuds are like N'Golo Kanté – they never get tired

Sennheiser's Momentum True Wireless earbuds return with an impressive sequel
German audio brand Sennheiser celebrates its 75th birthday this year and have given themselves a present: an update on the successful Momentum True Wireless earbuds. The new buds come with Active Noise Cancellation, an improved shape and a battery with increased stamina. EDGAR scrolled to Kendrick Lamar and gave them a trial. Here are six things we learned:
German designed and made, the Momentum True Wireless 2 earbuds come in a sophisticated grey tweed carry case – sturdy and very strokeable.
Day one, and we try to prize them out of their snug beds but it’s tricky. The new 1.8g buds have been given different ergonomics and are 2mm smaller than the previous model, but we feel like a polar bear trying to do intricate crochet as we fumble around with the shiny little fellas. You really have to grip tightly with the very end of your fingertips or they’ll go skittering across the floor. Handle with care.
The tweed case is highly strokeable
Once in the ear, however, they connect instantly so there’s no need to turn them on and wait for your device to find them. As an impatient type, we love that speedy feature. Furthermore, it’s a small detail, but the gold-plated charging pins look impressively shiny and luxurious.
Hit play on Lamar’s addictive King Kunta and the sound is superbly deep, earthy and full, almost symphonic. The sound is more akin to earphones with giant, squishy ear cups than slimline earbuds. This is down to the True Wireless 2’s 7mm dynamic drivers, designed and made in Germany.
Deep bass is guaranteed
We worked the Momentum 2 earbuds hard for days and the battery – like N'Golo Kanté – just would not fade. These new buds have a seven-hour battery life that can be extended to up to 28 hours by charging on the go in the case. If you’re the sort of person who forgets to charge their tech, then this feature is good news for you.
Sennheiser’s Smart Control App lets you play with the sound and set your preferred touch control options. The sound equaliser animation on screen is a dreamy blue wave and includes one sound setting called ‘beef’ which is precisely the word we’d use to describe our listening experience. Happy birthday, Sennheiser – 75 and still going strong.
