Summer transfers 2021: Sancho, Kane, Ronaldo and more

Words by Nathan Irvine

All change

We take a look at some of the biggest potential transfers that could take place in world football this summer, and rate just how likely these stars are to move.

Jadon Sancho

Potential destination: Manchester United

At the time of writing, Borussia Dortmund's superstar winger is currently picking splinters out of his backside as he sits on bench for England at the Euros. But this hasn't stopped one million stories (this is 1,000,001) about Sancho finally - FINALLY - signing for Manchester United. Having missed out on him last year, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer looks set to add Sancho to the squad. So barring an absolutely calamitous negotiation period or failed medical, Jadon Sancho will become a United player in 2021.

On the move? Yes

Sergio Ramos

Potential destinations: Chelsea, PSG and Manchester United

One of the more intriguing transfer stories of the summer is where Real Madrid legend, Sergio Ramos will land. Having left the Bernabeu with a teary farewell, Ramos is a free agent and, most importantly, still in decent shape with a lot to offer at centre back. There's still a lot of mystery around where Ramos could end up. Even though you could see him shoring up the back in a Chelsea shirt, he could quite easily put himself out to pasture at L.A. Galaxy in the MLS. It really will depend on how much of a challenge he's up for in the twilight of his career.

On the move? 100% yes

Raphael Varane

Potential destinations: PSG, Juventus, Chelsea or Manchester United

Speaking of Real Madrid defenders, Raphael Varane is also reportedly on his way out with club captain, Sergio Ramos. The difference here is that Varane allegedly fancies a new challenge having won it all for Real. He won't be short of suitors if his wish to leave is granted by the bosses at Real Madrid. Manchester United desperately need a new centre-back to play alongside Harry Maguire and Chelsea need an upgrade on the ageing Thiago Silva.

On the move? Yes

Kylian Mbappé

Potential destinations: Real Madrid or Liverpool

OK, OK, PSG are unlikely to let their talisman leave this summer, but this hasn't stopped the rumour mill churning up his name. Mbappé has been a long-time target of Real Madrid who are desperate to sharpen their attacking lineup since Cristiano Ronaldo left. But there's a school of thought that suggest Liverpool's Mohamed Salah is a more affordable option, which would leave the door open for the Anfield club to pounce on the French starlet. The most likely outcome is that he'll stay at least one more season at PSG as they look to win Ligue 1 and the Champions League next term.

On the move? No

Raheem Sterling

Potential destinations: Tottenham Hotspur and Arsenal

As Man City look to switch things up in order to fit the FFP-baiting huge transfers of Harry Kane and Jack Grealish, Raheem Sterling has suddenly found himself out of favour. If rumours are to be believed, Sterling is being offered as a makeweight to Spurs to get Kane to the Etihad Stadium. But London neighbours, Arsenal have emerged as a potential destination for the England winger. At 26, and in the prime of his career, we can't see him settling for a season out of the Champions League and if he does leave, he could end up in Spain.

On the move? No

Eduardo Camavinga

Potential destinations: Arsenal, Manchester United or PSG

At 18 years old, Eduardo Camavinga is one of football's top talents. His performances at centre-mid for French side Rennes have earned him a call up to the full French national squad... and admiring glances for Europe's top clubs. There's almost no doubt that the youngster will move club this summer and take his commanding midfield skills to a more illustrious side. Arsenal see him as the perfect partner for Thomas Partey, while Manchester United feel he could unlock the deadly duo of Paul Pogba and Bruno Fernandes combining higher up the pitch.

On the move? Yes

Erling Haaland

Potential destinations: Manchester City, Chelsea and Real Madrid

If there's one team that won't be pushed around in the transfer market, it's Borussia Dortmund. They held onto Jadon Sancho (see above) last summer and fended off bids for star striker Haaland then too. However, they're very aware that every player has a price and if one of the big clubs rustle up an enormous amount for hot-shot Haaland, they'll let him leave and reinvest it wisely. This Dortmund team is young and hungry, but Haaland and his agent always knew it was a stepping stone. Whether he makes this leap this summer or not is in the balance.

On the move? No

Harry Kane

Potential destinations: Manchester City, Chelsea, Manchester United or PSG

We've talked about potential landing spots for Harry Kane before. And if there's one thing that's likely to push him out of the door, it's the fact that right now, Spurs still don't have a manager and no real plan for the future. It's a mess. Is there any wonder he's angling for a move? Man City are rumoured to have had a £100m offer turned down, which allegedly included three City players too. Spurs chairman, Daniel Levy isn't about to let his most-prized asset leave, but with such an influence on the changing room, letting Kane leave might not be such a bad idea for Levy.

On the move? Yes

Jack Grealish

Potential destinations: Manchester City and Manchester United

The most famous calves in football have been subject to a potential big money move this summer. Both Manchester clubs have expressed interest in the Aston Villa skipper who continuously brings the magic whenever he steps onto the pitch. Villa, however, are keen to keep hold of Jack Grealish and any move will have to make sense for the club and the player. It's one thing getting bundles of cash for their star player, but convincing an appropriate replacement to move to the Midlands is another story altogether.

On the move? No

Cristiano Ronaldo

Potential destinations: PSG or Manchester United

It wouldn't be a summer transfer window without Cristiano Ronaldo being mentioned. The rumours all seem to be based around the fact that Juventus need to get him off the wage bill, but this is unsubstantiated. Would Ronaldo fancy a move away from Italy? Maybe. He certainly fits the bill of leading the line at PSG alongside a terrifying prospect of Mbappe and Neymar either side of him. But no matter how much Manchester United are linked, we just can't see it happening.
