Amazon is getting into the robot business with its first little hi-tech home help. Astro is a rolling robot that seems to be the natural evolution of the Alexa voice control service. You can use its flashy screen to do things such as video calls - and even summon it to follow you around so the camera never misses your moves. It has a telescopic camera for those out of the home, or the super lazy, to check on high surfaces or - as the video shows below - check to see if the oven has been left on.
The robot is also capable of entering surveillance mode and scooting around your abode as you sleep to make sure there's no-one creeping about inside. And if it does hear a noise, it will head towards it and show you, via its camera to your phone/tablet, what's going on.
At $999 (approx. AED 3,699), it's a fairly expensive piece of kit. And if that price tag doesn't put you off, maybe the rumour from its developers that Amazon's Astro will "record everything you do" and, hilariously, "throw itself down stairs" will.
