Quick out of the blocks and ready to provide plenty of big sound
These new earbuds from Sennheiser are like excitable puppies who have been left at home all day and have just heard their owner's key in the front door. Barely a moment after lifting Sennheiser’s new CX 400BT True Wireless model out of the smooth white case, they’re ready to go, with an automated voice telling you: ‘Power on!’ followed by: ‘Connected!’
Curvy, matt and futuristic in looks, EDGAR tried the white version for a week (they also come in black) and quickly became quite attached. While some earbuds can feel like they’re burrowing inside your ear canal, this lightweight piece of kit slip comfortably into position without the need for an ear-gouging twist. We gave them a solid run-out for 45 minutes (the runtime of the brilliant new album by Everything Everything) and the comfort was the same from song one to the finale. Weighing just 12g, you can barely feel their presence.
The sound is satisfyingly powerful, thanks to Sennheiser’s 7mm dynamic drivers while the power is also impressive: these earbuds will supply your soundtrack for 20 hours with easy-to-learn tap controls that can be completely customised.
Conveniently, you can remove an earbud and the sound will continue in the one that’s still in place – handy if someone in the office needs to ask you a quick question – and better than other buds that annoyingly pause audio when one is removed.
These buds don’t have active noise cancellation and the case doesn’t feel tremendously high in quality, a bit plastic and flimsy. However, for affordability, rapid set-up, straightforward controls, excellent sound and a cool appearance, these buds are top dog.
