No price, no release date, but Microsoft and Sony are continuously teasing us with their next-gen wares. Here's what we know...
After months of being drip-fed tiny bytes of information, the next-gen console wars are about to begin in earnest.
Microsoft’s Xbox Series X and Sony’s PlayStation 5 will be jockeying for a position underneath or next to your big screen TV this November. Both are set to deliver the richest video game experiences ever in their own unique way.
Whilst PlayStation 5 will make load times lightning quick and allow you to “feel” what it’s like when your character walks on ice, sand and the like through the controller, Xbox Series X is more powerful. On paper, at least, it’s set to have four times the power of its rival. What this means in tangible terms is anyone’s guess, mind. All that really matters to fans is whether the games are actually good or not?

In the early knockings between the pair, it would seem PlayStation 5 has the advantage. Cross-platform titles such as Call of Duty: Black Ops – Cold War, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Resident Evil Village have all been used to demonstrate the power of PS5. Then you have exclusive games like Spider-Man: Miles Morales and Horizon: Forbidden West vying for your attention.
On the new Xbox? Well, there’s not many triple-A games landing in 2020. In fact, Halo Infinite, the flagship game that’s billed as a system seller for Microsoft, has been postponed until 2021. So even though it might be technically more powerful console, there’s not much to play on the Xbox Series X.
Still, there’s time for Microsoft to spring a few surprises between now and November. At this stage, it’s anyone’s guess as to who will win the next-gen console war.
