Top players model matchday looks
There was a time when footballers turned up to play a game wearing their official club tracksuit and a pair of trainers. But now, as they face increasing demand from fans for more behind-the-scenes action of their beloved teams, clubs are being forced to reveal more of their once-secret matchday ritual and that means players must look the part both on and off the pitch.
Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain are leading the way with new outfits for this season that have been designed by elite brands. Juventus have teamed with Italian luxury outfitter Loro Piana for a casual long-sleeved polo and trousers look, seen below on the imposing frames of goalkeeper Mattia Perin, Luca Pellegrini, Leonardo Bonucci, and Dejan Kulusevski.
Loro Piana will supply two seasonal uniforms for players and a suit for manager Massimiliano Allegri that has in-built stretch and thermal-regulation for those chilly night matches in Turin.
Over in Paris, meanwhile, the PSG squad have fancy new suits from Dior hanging in their locker room, worn here by a stellar line-up of players except Lionel Messi who, we presume, signed after the team photo was taken. If Quentin Tarantino ever wants to remake his 1992 cult classic Reservoir Dogs, then he should jump on a plane from Hollywood to Paris and have a chat with the PSG lads because they sure do know how to pull off a black suit.
For the next two seasons, (left to right) Gianluigi Donnarumma, Neymar Jr, Marco Verratti, Abdou Diallo, Leandro Paredes, Sergio Ramos and the rest of the squad will wear Dior suits designed by the French brand’s artistic director of men’s collections, Kim Jones.
As well as a saddle bag in black grained calfskin, a reversible black and navy-blue belt, and a cashmere scarf, the team will also wear leather captoe Derby shoes with the player’s squad number embossed in the insole.
Who wore it best? It’s a close call but, as might happen if the two teams meet on the pitch this season, we believe PSG just edge it.
