Piero Giglio opens his wardrobe

Words by Rob Chilton

The Dubai restaurant manager talks about his personal style and favourite brands

Piero Giglio is the GM of Il Borro Tuscan Bistro Dubai at Jumeirah Al Naseem Hotel. He began by talking about his distinctive spectacles.

“I have about 20 pairs, all different styles from different brands. I choose my glasses depending on what clothes I wear and what mood I’m in. I have three pairs from Tom Ford, which I really like – beautiful and comfortable.”

“This burgundy suit I’m wearing was made by an Italian tailor from Tuscany called Marco Mungai who has a shop at the Westin Hotel in Dubai. They understand the importance of cut as well as details like the Neapolitan shoulder which is important for me because Italian style is my personality.”

“At work I walk and stand a lot so my shoes must fit well. I like Ferragamo a lot, and I have a pair of black shoes from Christian Louboutin that I wear for special occasions. You need to rest your shoes after wearing them and rotate between pairs so they last longer.”

“I have a Rolex Oysterquartz from the 1980s designed by Gerald Genta. I found it last year at Momentum, the vintage watch shop in Dubai and fell in love instantly.”

“I have a pair of black Gucci sneakers that I love. I sometimes wear them with a suit to break the routine, it’s fun and I feel more relaxed. I find that wearing sneakers changes my approach to the whole day.”

“I wear thin ties because they’re in proportion to my height. My favourite is a handmade black tie with white dots from the famous E. Marinella brand that I think looks great with any suit.”

Italian style is important to Giglio

“I always wear handmade white shirts from my tailor Marco Mungai and also I have some from Knights and Lords. I like white shirts because they are professional and elegant. I have tried to buy shirts off the peg from stores in the past but they never fit properly.”
