Iconic Italian eyewear brand pays tribute to the UAE city
Among the medals, firearms and banknotes on display at Dubai’s superb Etihad Museum is a pair of sunglasses belonging to His Highness Sheikh Zayed bin Sultan Al Nahyan, the founding father of the UAE.
They’re made by Carrera, the Italian eyewear brand that began trading in 1956. Today, more than 60 years later, Carrera marks another milestone in its relationship with the UAE with the release of a special edition pair of sunglasses.
Priced at AED 800, the reworked Champion model carries the official Dubai tourism logo on the lens and comes in either black or tortoiseshell. The unique shades will be available in selected stores of Al Jaber Optical.
Andrea Zaffin is head of Safilo, the company that owns Carrera, and calls the sunglasses “an iconic Emirati style that honours the heritage of Dubai and its people.” Issam Kazim, CEO of Dubai Corporation for Tourism and Commerce Marketing (DCTCM) said, “Carrera is a brand that has been celebrated by Dubai’s visionary leadership for many years, and worn by Emiratis for generations.”
