A watch with motifs that echo adventures on two wheels
While Covid may have curtailed our travels, a new watch from Breitling aims to let us dream of faraway places. The Top Time Deus chronograph is “tribute to the nomad spirit” says Breitling, a brand that always has one eye on the open road, sky or sea.
Based on the 1960s original Top Time, this 41mm silver dialled chronograph has circular counters with squared off corners that mimic the look of a motorcycle’s instrument panel.
A calfskin racing strap and yellow and orange details add more racing edge, as does the flamboyant orange chronograph hand in the shape of a lightning bolt. Around the tachymetre is the Deus motto ‘In benzin veritas’ which translates as ‘in petrol we trust’ – not sure what the anti-carbon guys would say about that.
Breitling CEO Georges Kern calls it a watch “for dynamic people of action, purpose, and style,” people like the trio of ambassadors for the new collaboration: Hawaiian competitive surfer Sierra Lerback, French motorcycle engineer and designer Jeremy Tagand and Forrest Minchinton, an American surfer/off-road biker who adds, “It’s all about a life well ridden, and if you can stop time while keeping time, all the better.”
